     The center is manned by volunteers Monday thru Friday 8:00am to 11:00am.  On the third Sunday of the month the Rotary Club of Leechburg and the Hyde Park Boy Scouts are there from 12:00pm to 3:00pm
     Leechburg Borough began the Recycling program in 1993.  The residents of Leechburg and surrounding areas, local businesses and Leechburg area School District all benefit from the recycling program.
     We have curb-side pick-up each Wednesday and, in accordance with the Recycling and Waste Reduction Act 101 Jul 28, 1988, it is mandatory for residents of Leechburg Borough to recycle various items. 

The following are picked up curb-side:
  • clear brown and green glass food and beverage containers beverage containers
  • aluminum, bi-metal food and beverage cans
  • plastic containers with triangle symbol #1 or #2
The following are collected at the center:
  • cardboard
  • newspapers
  • junk mail
  • shredded paper
  • magazines
    For the year 2012, the volunteers processed and the Borough sold 25 tons of brown glass, 35 tons of clear glass and 10 tons of green glass, 79 tons of newspaper, 17 tons of cardboard, 18 tons of #1 plastic and 10 tons of #2 plastic, 2 tons of aluminum cans and 8 tons of bimetal cans.  The monies received go to the Borough.  Recycling helps with the cost of Refuse removal.

    We are currently looking for additional volunteers to help with the recycling program.  If you are interested, please contact the borough office Monday through Friday 9am to 4pm.

Cleanup Opportunities

     In order to assist the borough residents with keeping their homes and lawns clean, we periodically hold large item clean-up days at the recycling center. Check your newsletter for dates as well as items that are acceptable and those that cannot be taken.
A coupon is required and can be found in the newsletter.

Snow Removal

     The Leechburg Borough street crew is responsible for street snow removal.
Call the borough office for any emergencies or 911 if it is after hours.

Leechburg Ordinance on Snow Removal rules the following (186-18):
     Whenever snow or ice, or either of them, shall have fallen or shall have formed upon any sidewalk in the borough, the owner or occupant of the lot or lots fronting thereon shall remove all such snow and ice from the sidewalk in front of or along his or her premises by 10:00am each day, and no notice shall be required from any borough official or employee to do so.  Any violation of this section shall subject the offender to the penalty as provided in 186-20 of this Article, provided that the owner of a property shall be subject to the requirements of this section where the property is unoccupied or is occupied by the owner.  The occupant shall be subject to such requirements where the property is occupied as a unit by such occupant.  The owner shall be subject to such requirements where the property is a multiple-business or multiple-dwelling property or otherwise consists of more than one unit designed for separate tenancy.
